Iowa Koi and Watergarden is one of the only locations in the Midwest where you will find HIGH QUALITY JAPANESE BREED NISHIKIGOI. We have worked hard to establish relationships with the country's top importers who have decades of experience and are recognized worldwide as the best in the field. As our business grows we will continue to expand our access to the world’s best Koi. We are dedicated to expanding the Koi hobby in the Midwest. To truly enjoy your pond and its’ occupants, Nishikigoi need to be maintained in top health. This requires an understanding of Koi anatomy, water quality, and the required filtration systems to maintain a suitable environment. We have years of experience keeping our Koi healthy and happy and want to help you do the same. As part of this dedication to your success, we have a former Water Quality Specialist for the Iowa Department Natural Resouces on staff to help you understand how to care for your pets and to maintain their world within acceptable limits. Iowa Koi will only carry the highest quality equipment and supplies from brands such as Aqua Ultraviolet, Evolution Aqua, Sequence, Savio, Hiarki, and Ogata. There are those who will advocate spending less or using lower quality equipment as a way to get into the hobby at the lowest expense possible. As the number and size of your collection grows, the filter system will need to be substantial to get the best from you pets. Koi can survive in less than ideal conditions, however they will be undersized, and their colors and health will deteriate over time. We encourage our clients to use quality equipment, as the cost and frustration of replacing inferior units every couple of years, or rebuilding an undersized pond or filter system cost much more than doing things correctly to begin with. Some items are carried in stock on an as needed basis. If you are planning to purchase filters, pumps or liner in person please contact us before hand so that we may have your item available at the time of your visit. Large items or packages can be ordered for later pickup or delivery. Purchases over $1000 are entitled to free delivery within 100 miles of Des Moines. F.A.Q.’s ---What justifies spending so much for a fish? Breeders in Japan spend a great deal of time and effort culling the fry which are initially produced. At the end of this process they are left with only 8-10% of the numbers with which they started. Of that 8-10%, only a small number end up being of sufficient quality to be called show grade. As you can see, a high quality Nishikigoi is a rare treasure which takes a very large and specialized facility, as well as generations of expertise to produce.
